This ridge is near the town of \u003cspan\u003eCastleton in Derbyshire, England.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Peak District national park is one of my favourite places in the UK I've visited. It has scenery to fall in love and so much history with a landscape central to the UK's industrial revolution. When I get the chance to visit, being able to take long walks up and down the hills there is really inspiring.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTo make this more than just a view of the ridge and fence, I added a group of local birds perched on gate, I imagine the scene before the early walkers arrive and they can just enjoy the view for themselves. I painted the scene with some crisp midday sun to bring out the greens of the fields and yellows, reds and pinks of the heather on the ridge. If you look at the tops, some stones have the remanence of interlocking bumps, a little bit like a very early Lego set! I've painted them here with a few of the parks birds you find there in the summer including a dippers, a wagtail, kingfisher, wheatear and some blue tits.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOne new technique to learn for this was how to depict a rivers shallow water as it mixes around after the little drop between the stones. I looked at artists work in animated film and paintings for inspiration on painting water foaming and mixing into patterns when its disturbed like this.
