Opened in 1873 these rooms are a unique experience within the museum, so many objects large objects it feels like venturing on a grand tour of Europe. Cast courts were an important resource for students to study when the museum opened, being a much richer resource than studying drawings of treasures the Musuem did not own. I took some inspiration from this in creating my first sculpture painting from here.

In this Weston court you can find Michelangelos David (the largest sculpture in the painting) and Michelangelo’s Moses, I’ve been lucky enough to see the originals in Italy and while these can't evoke the same emotional feeling, its amazing to have them as a resource so close to home.

You can read more about the history of the cast courts on the V & A Museum's website here: https://www.vam.ac.uk/articles/history-of-the-cast-courts.

** Please note, this print comes unframed **

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0778/0139/0355/files/victoria-albert-museum-cast-court-wall-art-print_c7307af0-75c4-484a-81fb-eda7370fcb5f.webp?v=1793292228
https://mikegreenillustration.com/products/the-victoria-and-albert-museum-london-cast-court-art-print
