A print of my sketch of the Tower of London by the river of the Thames. I hand drew this famous landmark with a Palomino pencil and finished with digital watercolour. The Tower of London is located in the borough of Tower Hamlets, just next to the City of London.

I drew this sketch of the tower from across the Thames, with the inner castle and some of the outer walls shown, including the entrance to Traitors' Gate. This was the entrance for many of those sentenced to be imprisoned in the tower after a journey down the river. It really doesn't bear thinking about having to go through there 😬 Started in 1066, the castle has had its last substantial addition in 1265 but has undergone many renovations over the centuries. If you like English history this has to be one of the sites in the country to visit, and the beefeater tours once you are inside are fantastic!

Visually, although quite a simple structure from distance, there is a lot of character to capture in this castle. I especially like the small roofs on top of the towers, they look like little hats! 🙂
